Translation: Lukas (the movie) is successful in its nervous and tense atmosphere. The casting is very good (Sami Bouajila, Sveva Alviti ...) and this kind of role fits JCVD like a glove, despite the lack of pure action scenes, it has enough to build a credible character. Indeed, the fact that there are few fights is clearly not a flaw, as they seem violent and realistic. They fall on us as they fall on Lukas. Each punch and shot seems more powerful than the previous one, and gives all this nervous side and makes it all the more realistic because the bullets do not rain like in many action movies. Overall, Lukas is a good movie, effective, even if we regret a limit in graphic violence even if we understand that a approach for a bigger audience is preferred.

www.lantreducinephile.com/2018/08/lukas-van-damme-chez-julien-leclercq.html LUKAS, VAN DAMME CHEZ JULIEN LECLERCQ Publié le 10 Août 2018 par Romain Jankowski Translation by Google: August 10, 2018 by Romain Jankowski In itself, LUKAS is an event since we will finally see JCVD in the cinema! Chaining the DTV and outputs in VOD for a while, the star of the 80s is entitled, this time, to the big screen. The trailer (available below) reveals Julien Leclercq's true sense of the setting, a faculty he had already highlighted in the impressive L'ASSAUT where he recounted the hostage-taking in the A- 300 took place in 1994. GIBRALTAR, despite its rhythm problems, also managed to impose a consistent and ambitious imagery, reminiscent of the spy movies of the 70s. His least successful album, BRAQUEURS, had at least some scenes of nervous action and highlighted the gross dimension of Sami Bouajila. The latter is also part of the cast of LUKAS. Julien Leclercq was to make PROST, a biopic on the famous Formula 1 driver, but production was delayed and funding difficult to obtain. While waiting for the green light, the filmmaker received the scenario of LUKAS written by Jérémie Guez and decided to put it in scene. Result? In six months, everything has been completed! A speed of execution due to a very fast sequence after the agreement of Van Damme to take the main role. Filmed in just 32 days, the film is sensory and direct, literally immersed in the skin of its main performer. One of Leclercq's sources of inspiration is THE WRESTLER, where Mickey Rourke becomes his character, incarnating in front of the camera inspired by Darren Aronofsky. With the help of several sequences, Leclercq wanted to obtain this instinctive and organic energy, concentrating his camera on the cinégénie of Van Damme. However, LUKAS will not deny his share of action film. Without leaning on a false psychological scenario, the plot remains compact to obtain a real picture film, preferring the form to offer an experience to the audience. Even the music follows this bias, Leclercq having opted for an electro sound close to the DRIVE of Nicolas Winding Refn. Here is an authentic proof that one can make carefull B movies, restoring a value to this too often pejorative term.

Score: 3/5 Good movie www.cinephages.com/2018/08/lukas.htmlMoreover, we will appreciate the space left to the supporting roles, often sacrificed on the altar of action in easy B series. Sami Bouajila (Omar in Omar to kill me), Sveva Alviti (Dalida in ... Dalida) and the belgian-Belgian duo Sam Louwyck (credible in spite) and Kevin Janssens (who does not leave the thriller after his participation in Killers) bring all the thickness to their character. Without reinventing the genre and despite a scenario already seen, "Lukas" lets himself be watched without displeasure. An amazing result when you know that the film was prepared, shot and post-produced in just six months; the first crank turns were given in Belgium at the beginning of the year. The inhabitants of Brussels will have fun to recognize the places of shooting in the capital. Release: Wednesday, August 22nd.

fuckingcinephiles.blogspot.com/2018/08/critique-lukas.htmlReview: Lukas by John Chevrier 3/5 stars Lukas is an action / thriller taking and stretching like the string of a thong, with violence as intense as frontal.
Strong and precise even if the plot suffers from a big blow of slack after an excellent introduction, empathetic despite a rather sketchy characterization of the characters (JCVD imposes in hero as mutique that it is of a touching sensitivity, Sami Bouajila is always exceptional and Kaaris does the job, as for Braqueurs) and an accumulation of clichés not always well felt; the footage, believable and end-to-end, is a B movie burned convincing, energetic and driven by a real desire to offer a good movie time from home that deposits.

Translation by Google:
Lukas is the latest Van Damme movie. "Latest Van Damme", what does this mean? In essence, it means that the director Julien Leclercq fades behind his star, to better express the whimsical Belgian and seduce the old aficionados of a videoclub cinema long forgotten. Is right ?
The theatrical staging of Leclercq is quite successful. His work on sound is exemplary and the blows are powerful. Van Damme, he is the center of all plans since the film was shot with a single camera on "Lukas". Result ? A tense editing, a tense soundtrack and a simple and effective writing. But these qualities are unfortunately mitigated by a very weak leadership of actors and secondary characters quite poor. However, we feel a desire to make film noir quite challenging in a French landscape that is sorely lacking. So come back successful for a JCVD who is by far the best actor of the film. And a salutary energy on the part of the filmmaker, if not totally mastered ...

lasueur.com/lukas-van-damme-21-8-2018Lukas - A very good thriller, for one of the best roles of Van Damme by Rust 21 août 2018 Lukas - Verdict Lukas is therefore a very good film, JCVD makes us discover a new depth in his game and Kaaris (yes yes, he is in it) did the job correctly before leaving in zonzon.

Lukas (The Bouncer) mulderville.net/critiques/4997/lukas-the-bouncerReview by Mulder Rating: 4.5 The director Julien Leclercq perfectly masters this film and gives it a true soul and especially manages to propose a perfect mix of thriller and action movie. Jean Claude Van Damme present in each of the scenes of the film of a plan of introduction to his character of a total mastery to the scenes of combats reminding us that despite his age he is an accomplished sportsman, We take the shots at the same time as his character and especially we are grateful to this director who has found a perfect role to show that the world cinema has among its ranks a complete actor.

Translation by Google: www.lanouvellerepublique.fr/a-la-une/jean-claude-van-damme-convaincant-dans-lukasJean-Claude Van Damme convincing in "Lukas" Posted on 22/08/2018 at 05:30 | Updated on 22/08/2018 at 08:38 Filmed in 32 days "Lukas" was shot with great energy in 32 days by Julien Leclercq, which gives him this aspect alive, hectic, under tension. Sveva Alviti, who exploded two years ago in Dalida, is fortunate enough to be entrusted with a magnificent and rare role for a woman. "Lukas" finally proves, once again, that once you give a good score to Jean-Claude Van Damme and that he is directed with precision and demand, it is striking. Mutique, broken, his character is obviously reminiscent of "The samurai" of Melville. If he gets off very well from the few scenes of action, it is especially elsewhere that we admire the game of Van Damme: when his now ravined face passes from one feeling to another.

Well, if Tarantino liked that film, then he is going to be crazy about 'Lukas'. This is the best film that Van Damme has ever made.

Translation by Google: Already author of The Assault (2010), Gibraltar (2013) and Braqueurs (2015), Julien Leclercq manages to infuse a slight strangeness to this story. He is obviously a film buff: he uses - like the Dardenne brothers! - tracking shots to follow his hero in the long corridors of the dancings or the desert hall of a large luxury hotel. He likes red reflections on wet asphalt, bluish glow, just anywhere, especially at night. Lukas, he films it very closely (sometimes down-dive) and surely asked Jean-Claude Van Damme not to express anything, which makes it, inevitably, expressive. Fearless. Mineral. But expressive ... Van Damme does not play, therefore, not. He does not embody anyone, just that Jean-Claude Van Damme believes to play a character who looks like Jean-Claude Van Damme.
"I do not know if you're a cracked or a survivor," he asks at one point, the bad guy. " A bit of both. One does not go without the other ", answers him J.C.V.D., heir of an age-old wisdom.
Note the participation of rapper Kaaris, who has just been released following his altercation with Booba at Orly airport, in the role of a nice friend, kind and helpful ...

A very serious film, black, a very beautiful achievement. In the cinema Wednesday, August 22! @oceanfilmsfr #JCVD Translation: In addition to the excellent performances of Jean-Claude Van Damme and Sami Bouajila, we can admire in #Lukas the dark game of Sam Louwyck, already seen this year in Burn Out, The Wild Boys and Let's Go Kids. "Lukas" causes a similar effect of surprise: Van Damme no longer plays the invincible heroes, Lukas is a poor guy at the end of the roll ... Approaching sixties, the face of JCVD has burned, dug: the actor has become a "mouth", a presence that does not need sophisticated dialogue or karate demonstration to exist on the screen. The French director Julien Leclercq understood this well, and imposes a convincing Van Damme in this black, square thriller, which uses the Belgian talents (Louwijck in dubious caïd, the young Alice Verset in the role of the daughter of Lukas). The film remains of course within the limits of genre film, the first degree, but nevertheless asserts itself as a good genre film.
