Translation: Damn, the poster does not reflect the tone of the movie at all! Damn I finally saw a good movie with jcvd and #julienleclerq much respect! ☺ #Lukas Thank you @gaumonttoulouse 😁 www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/hard-target-john-woo-clashing-jean-claude-van-damme-1137208 Rating: 5.5/10 Nevertheless, this is one of Van Damme’s best performances. He’s of course never more comfortable acting than in his native French, but the dialogue is sparse here. It’s his grizzled face, his deeply melancholy eyes that tell the story, and the subtleties of warmth, anger or despair they convey are the main reasons to watch The Bouncer. He’s well-matched by Sam Louwyck, imposingly dangerous and yet at times oddly sympathetic as the crime boss Lukas must help take down. And Alice Verset has a touching chemistry with Van Damme as his daughter, though the film confines said chemistry to a few small vignettes. The Bouncer is more film noir than action film, but it does offer a handful of very grounded, sometimes impressively brutal hand-to-hand fights, as well as an interesting tracking shot stealthily entering and noisily escaping a drug den; a quick parking lot chase is much less memorable. The Bouncer doesn’t hinder Van Damme’s slow, diluted comeback, but it doesn’t advance it much either.

www.demorgen.be/film/jean-claude-van-damme-lijkt-met-lukas-eindelijk-zijn-echte-comeback-te-pakken-te-hebben-b59698db/Jean-Claude Van Damme seems to finally have his real comeback with 'Lukas' With his new film Lukas, The Muscles from Brussels finally proves that he can act thirty years after his big breakthrough. 23-08-18 by Lieven Trio Jean-Claude Van Damme lijkt met 'Lukas' eindelijk zijn echte comeback te pakken te hebben
The Muscles from Brussels laat nu ook zijn hart spreken
Uitgerangeerd.

Translation: I saw Lukas aka The Bouncer yesterday and am very impressed. Forget the meta of JCVD and Jean-Claude Van Johnson: this is Van Damme at his best. Director Julien Leclercq.. This review is negative but not about JCVD but about the directing. www.lequotidienducinema.com/critiques/1823/lukas

www.ecranlarge.com/films/critique/1032427-lukas-critique-dammee Translation: Lukas would like to be a nervous thriller with Jean-Claude in full possession of his means. but it is only another umpteenth attempt by the actor to redeem himself an artistic credibility. www.bekindreview.fr/forum/critiques/topic6834-75.html#p917948 Rating 5/10 Translation:A sober film, dark but with convincing realism, thanks to a magnetic jcvd. #Lukas Translation: Between #Lukas and #BlackWater there was some jcvd theme emerging from my side this week # Lukas really excellent in its darkness, #BlackWater more classic but that made me want to see the #UniversalSoldier both duo JCVD / Lundgren works Translation: Thanks to jcvd for this awesome acting in the movie LUKAS! I loved it, and it was a really good time from start to finish! ❤️🎞 #Lukas #film #jcvd

Translation: jcvd bravo for lukas, I found you at the top in your role, this role you have beautifully played. I dreamt of seeing you on the big screen, it was about time. GO SEE LUKAS
newsmonkey.be/article/90488?utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=SocialMedia&utm_medium=social&utm_content=PostContent Rating: 4/10 This was followed by the mediocre documentary 'JCVD' (2008) and a flopped series he made for Amazon. And also the contours in Van Damme's face make Lukas a credible character: the grooves have deeply nestled, the bags under the eyes are unmistakable: Lukas has already suffered in this life.
Translation
Lukas #JCVD as we have never seen him before, beautiful, silent, moving in a violent thriller, dry and tense 👍 jcvd

Jay77 awarded 7/10 to the movie Lukas and recommended it www.senscritique.com/film/Lukas/critique/175840087In the end, the interest of Lukas is not based on its classic scenario seen over and over again, but on the realistic and violent staging, the tense atmosphere and the acting of a Jean-Claude Van Damme being able to move us as he knows he can. Is Lukas finally the sign of rebirth for the actor? Let's cross our fingers, he deserves it.

Review posted by David Rumeaux on August 27, 2018 Rating: 7/10 www.senscritique.com/film/Lukas/critique/176228725Translation by Google: It's not the story or the dialogue that make this movie. It is the visuals that that make this movie. It is the almost impassive face of Lukas, it's the impact of blows (fists or fire), or simply by the environments he will cross. Under his hood, like a superhero of lowlands, he will indeed go through this story trying to somehow get by. For if he is a hero, it will only be in the eyes of his daughter, who nevertheless does not see anything of it.

being French, I could see him twice in the cinema ... it's for me one of his best films, it's not a usual Van Damme who will put kicks but the main fight of the film in the cellar is of a rare violence! the film is very catchy and very stressful ... we do not pick up a single moment! it's really a very great film ... a new film between Julien Leclercq and JC should see the day in the years to follow ... the film will be called "Blood and Land" and tell the story of a man very skinny patient who will try to survive on his farm thanks to the suburban youth company.

Dutch review: Translation: Mega good movie. Really, the acting made it one of Jean-Claude Van Damme's best movies. Especially when it comes down to the acting. It's not a typical Jean-Claude Van Damme martial arts film, but it's really a mega good movie.

[FANTASTIC FEST 2018] JEAN-CLAUDE VAN DAMME STRETCHES HIS ACTING MUSCLES IN ‘THE BOUNCER’ The original title of THE BOUNCER was LUKAS. While neither title is exactly eye-catching, the original at least spoke to the fact that the film is more of a character study with some violent moments as opposed to a pure Van Damme action flick. With its focus as a character study, the film will probably not be of that much interest to Van Damme’s fans who are only interested in watching him unleash roundhouse kicks to the head or do physics-defying splits. But for folks who were impressed by Van Damme’s nuanced performance in JCVD, THE BOUNCER offers up a similarly intriguing, gritty performance worth seeing.Read full review here: dailygrindhouse.com/thewire/fantastic-fest-2018-jean-claude-van-damme-stretches-acting-muscles-bouncer/

Fantastic Fest 2018: LUKAS (aka THE BOUNCER): A Top Tier Late JCVD Eurocrime Thriller Sullen and wizened JCVD might be the best JCVD Between the self-reflective JCVD, the hilarious Jean-Claude Van Johnson series, and now The Bouncer, Van Damme proves he’s a committed and gifted performer willing to mine the depths of his flaws for great characters and still willing to put in the physical work to be a credible aging bruiser.
If meditative thrillers about aging heroes is your bag, then Lukas (the superior European title of The Bouncer) is the crime film for you. I enjoyed it so much I plan to track down some of the earlier films of director Leclercq, and I personally recommend A Bluebird In My Heart for those looking to get a taste of The Bouncer to tide them over until this film gets a release in their region of the world.Read full review here: cinapse.co/fantastic-fest-2018-lukas-aka-the-bouncer-a-top-tier-late-jcvd-eurocrime-thriller-d20e54600aa
