collider.com/jean-claude-van-johnson-review-jcvd-amazon/#images'Jean-Claude Van Johnson’ Review: A Spinning and Kicking Good Time BY ALLISON KEENE DECEMBER 13, 2017 The series can easily be binged as a long JCVD movie, one that keeps its focus almost entirely on the star. That’s just fine. As he says late in the series, “When I met you I was nothing. Just a movie star making millions of dollars. But you made me the hero I was flawlessly pretending to be.” Jean-Claude Van Johnson loves its star, and wants us to love him too.
Rating: ★★★★ Good Fun

Jean-Claude Van Johnson Review: Action Stars And Off-Screen Toughness Posted on December 15, 2017 in TV Show News starnewsvision.com/tv-show-news/jean-claude-van-johnson-review-action-stars-and-off-screen-toughnessThe miniseries format (the show runs for six episodes, including the previously released pilot) feels well judged. It’s been made with such care and having to produce a lot of episodes would put a massive amount of pressure on the concept. It’s pretty, thoughtful, funny and absurd. It works at everything it tries. It’s a good satire, it’s a funny comedy and it’s an enjoyable action thriller. And you know what? I’m tough enough offline that I’d be willing to say that to Jean-Claude Van Damme’s face.

4 stars (out of 5) Jean-Claude Van Johnson review: Van Damme's twist on the 'version of themselves' sitcom that doesn't always land the joke www.telegraph.co.uk/on-demand/2017/12/15/jean-claude-van-johnson-review-van-dammes-twist-version-sitcom/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter Jean-Claude Van Johnson review: Van Damme's twist on the 'version of themselves' sitcom that doesn't always land the joke Some viewers will yawn and slam their laptop lid shut in frustration, and if you want a consistent, measured, impeccably scripted and directed award-winner, Jean-Claude Van Johnson is not the one. But with so much po-faced, inertia-laden, 10-hours-of-thinking-hard programming around the moment, it's refreshing to see something so keen to please.

www.sfchronicle.com/tv/article/Action-star-is-Van-Damme-funny-in-Amazon-spoof-12424738.phpAction star is Van Damme funny in Amazon spoof All the elements work well together, but Van Damme owns the show’s six episodes. Even when he’s dead serious playing himself, he has an almost Buster Keaton-like skill at deadpan humor. When he’s Filip, JCVD’s sad-eyed, terminally timid doppelganger, he’s even funnier.
OK, so maybe you’re not a “Time Cop” fan, or a fan of JCVD’s genre of action films or even a Van Johnson fan. But “Jean-Claude Van Johnson” is hard to resist.

JC has already shown to be a good actor in the past but this time he has definitely close the mouth of many critics that call JC "a physical actor". JC can kick and act, he just need a good script.

lasvegasweekly.com/ae/film/2017/dec/14/jcvd-gets-meta-in-jean-claude-van-johnson/ 2.5/5 But the six-episode season gets increasingly outlandish, eventually including time travel, doppelgangers and a machine that controls the weather. It’s not quite enough to transcend the mediocre comedy, thin characters and rote fight scenes, but at least it’s more entertaining than another assembly-line D-level action movie.

Yes, it's clear that the public loves it. Would have been nice if the critics were just as enthusiastic, but you can't have it all, can you? The public's opinion is the most important anyway.

53% positive reviews from critics is absolutely a good result! just look at the JCVD films reactions by critics, can you believe that Bloodsport has 33% positive reviews and Timecop 44% ? The critics are never been kind with JCVD, not just him but action stars in general, it's not weird that the film "JCVD" was his best received there, critics mostly look at acting and fortunately Van Johnson has lots of good acting. www.rottentomatoes.com/celebrity/jeanclaude_van_damme/

Yeah, basically this.
And regarding that, I'm really surprised that Enemies Closer end up with a fresh score on RT. But he sure gave an amazing villain performance.

www.tracking-board.com/jean-claude-van-johnson-review-season-1/JEAN-CLAUDE VAN JOHNSON Review: Season 1 December 18, 2017 Jean Claude Van Johnson is the weird, comedic parody of 80s action flicks and the martial-arts legends who led them that I never knew I always wanted. It’s ridiculous, laugh-out-loud funny, and surprisingly smart. It’s just the right amount of self-deprecating while also offering dynamic characters with motivations we can invest in and root for. And, to top it off, it’s surprisingly diverse and modernistically-inclined.
[..]
But maybe I’m bias because I love parodies. Either way, I hope we get more of this, or something in the same vein, because, in a world where female-centric and minority-led TV is finally taking a much-needed priority, this is the type of well-balanced revisit to the height of 80s action films that demonstrates what white, cis male-centric reboots should be. In other words, a joke that lines really, really well.
