We Die Young - 4/10 (German blu-ray)
I usually buy two Italian versions of the JCVD films but this time I smell a dvd only release for Italy, so I decided to buy a foreign blu-ray first while I wait the Italian dvd version.
Unfortunately I didn't like it. There are more defects than good things. 3 things annoyed me the most. 1. JC's role was wasted, his mute mode was annoying, they sell it as a JC film when it clearly isn't / 2. Shaky camera, all the action scenes had that annoying moving effect and this is not Jason Bourne / 3. The music, I hate generic Spanish music, it was a clear scenario, no need to add so much bad music to create a ghetto vibe.
Not everything was bad though, the acting was decent, the locations were realistic and the general setting was watchable and the last shootout sequence was not bad. I had no problem watching it entirely even without enjoying the film.
This goes straight into the short list of JCVD films I don't like.

Too bad you didn't like it, but we knew it would not be a big role.

Too bad you didn't like it, but we knew it would not be a big role. Yes and I also knew he wouldn't talk but it was terrible anyway, he looked tired as hell. Except for the new Kickboxer films, I always end up not enjoying his supporting roles, he can't save these mediocre productions.

ultimateactionmovies.com/we-die-young-review/UAMC Review: Jean-Claude Van Damme’s ‘We Die Young’
by Ultimate Action Movies · June 24, 2019
Van Damme hits his marks, but this modern actioner fails to live up to its ultimate roots.
Jean-Claude Van Damme has developed the kind of brand that allows him to experiment with his role choices. We Die Young is a clear example of this experimentation. Van Damme plays Daniel a mute, ex-marine with a drug addiction who suffers from painful bouts of PTSD.
Daniel remains an enigma throughout the entire film but manages to be one of its most compelling elements. The central focus however is Lucas (Elijah Rodriguez) a young gang member who spends his time regretting his affiliations or trying to escape them.Read more here: ultimateactionmovies.com/we-die-young-review/

I watched this movie last night. Here is my review:
The movie was sort of promoted as an action movie, JCVD against MS13, but it's different than you would expect.
The first couple of minutes are unpleasant to watch. The movie starts with a flash-forward, I hate flash-forwards, so not a good start. The camera work is driving you crazy in the first couple of minutes, the actors talk so fast I couldn't even read the subtitles because they were flashing by so fast. I actually considered turning them off. But thankfully it gets better after the first couple of minutes so I could keep the subtitles on.
I like the story, there are some funny bits in the movie. It even has some surprising elements. JCVD's character has a good heart, but he is suffering from post-traumatic stress and takes pills and drugs to block the bad memories. He is pretty much like a zombie the entire movie, very little emotion. Even when they are in the action parts he seems to be numb most of the time, not a pleasant sight but I guess the played his part well. The cast was OK to good, except for the main actors, the kids Lucas and Miguel were bad at times. Especially the little kid, he looked adorable but he had a smile on his face during scenes were he was supposed to be scared or upset. There is also one scene with JCVD where he looks surprised like something happens behind JCVD but there is nothing going on in the movie. The kids acted amateuristic which it too bad because the movie could have been better.
You get a lot of information about MS13 throughout the movie, but I don't think this movie will win any awards like the short film did. I can recommend watching the movie because it has entertainment value. Rating: 7-

We die Young (2019) 3/5 stars by admin · Published 5 July 2019 · Updated 5 July 2019 He’s back again. There’s one advantage. JcvD concentrates more on the acting part than on the more action-rich part. Films such as “Bloodsport” and “Kickboxer” from the 80s were immensely popular. And I admit that I also look back on that with pleasure. Unfortunately, this successful period was followed by a period with fewer successful films. Such as “Alien Uprising” (probably to please his daughter), “Dragon Eyes” and “Welcome to the Jungle“. After the umpteenth crap movie, my decision was made. Best I avoid JcvD films. Until recently. I couldn’t resist watching “The Bouncer” and was pleasantly surprised. Let me quote myself for a moment: “Just when you think that an icon such as Jean-Claude Van Damme is becoming a caricature of himself and in danger of sinking into oblivion, he surprises you with such a part as in this film. The “Muscles from Brussels” got under my skin with his integer and sensitive acting. ” I couldn’t have said it better.

I still think this film was a complete waste of time, I'm not surprised JC took a long break after this production.

WE DIE YOUNG Review: Van Damme… The Old Wasted, Hero Looking For Redemption Mike Garcia by Mike Garcia — April 12, 2020 Nevertheless, and as I was saying, the film is surprisingly good, and gives more than you could expect, which for a film fan is always a joy. This is an emotional and touching story, about choices that defines who we are, and acts of redemption that can save a wounded soul. The film is available through streaming platforms such as Amazon Prime, Vudu Video, Itunes or Fandango Now filmcombatsyndicate.com/we-die-young-review-van-damme-the-old-wasted-hero-looking-for-redemption/

Translated by Google: A Honduran friend, who knows a lot about cinema, asked me if I had seen Jean-Claude Van Damme's We Die Young. I told him as an excuse that the jcvd movies didn't appeal to me. But he recommended it to me so much that I made time to see it. An anguish from start to finish. 8/10
