"This is a very, very different film for Jean-Claude van Damme, like a different kind of role for him. I though this was actually a pretty well done movie here."

www.avnirvana.com/threads/we-die-young-blu-ray-review.4396/We Die Young - Blu-ray Review April 8, 2019 Discussion in 'Blu-ray / Media Reviews' started by Michael Scott Final Score: 3.5 stars We Die Young is an interesting character drama (with some brutal action scenes) for Van Damme, but this really shines due to Elijah Rodriguez. It’s his story with Van Damme playing second fiddle, and the movie is a lot better than I anticipated. There’s some choppy action scenes, but the battles are brutal, the message simple and the to the point, and Van Damme plays one of the more unique roles in his recent history. I really liked where they went with the story (although the toning down of MS-13 leader Rincon was a bit out of place) and the Lionsgate Blu-ray is very solid in the technical specs department. The extras are a bit slim, but this is still a very solid watch if you’re a Van Damme film, and even a very decent watch for fans of urban dramas.

If you’ve seen my reviews of 21st century Van Damme movies like JCVD, ENEMIES CLOSER, KICKBOXER: VENGEANCE and KICKBOXER: RETALIATION you know I’m of the opinion that Van Damme has unexpectedly become a strong and interesting actor late in his career. So it’s not faint praise when I say this is one of his best performances. He’s forced to communicate more than ever with those tired, sad eyes (though he also gestures and types messages into his phone).

Blu-ray Review: We Die Young (2019) 4/19/2019 Produced by its star Jean-Claude Van Damme, We Die Young gives the actor his best role since 2008's JCVD. Reminiscent of Martin Campbell's underrated 2017 effort The Foreigner, which features a similarly stellar turn by JCVD contemporary Jackie Chan as a humbled man who, wearied by life, decides to act rather than be pushed by the wayside, while Young is easily the B-movie here, the two have so much in common (both onscreen and off) that they work even better together as a double feature.

flix66.com/we-die-young-blu-ray-review/ MOVIE REVIEW 2.5/5 BLU-RAY REVIEW 1.5/5 This isn’t a bad movie though. I started out with Van Damme because I was surprised at the amount of depth he brought to the character. Every character in this movie is surprisingly fleshed out. Even when the ideas behind the story aren’t that good, the characters written for it are very three-dimensional. While visually being very cliché, their background, emotions and actions are surprisingly nuanced. WE DIE YOUNG is Lior Geller’s first film and it shows a lot of promise, as long as he hires someone else to do cinematography for future movies.
