www.latimes.com/entertainment/movies/la-et-mn-capsule-3-review-string-20190229-story.htmlMar 01, 2019 ‘We Die Young’ Fear of the international crime gang MS-13 drives “We Die Young,” which stars Jean-Claude Van Damme as Daniel, a PTSD-stricken Marine veteran who lives in a crime-ridden neighborhood in Washington, D.C. He comes to the aid of Lucas (Elijah Rodriguez), a 14-year-old drug runner who wants out of the gang after they recruit his younger brother, Miguel (Nicholas Sean Johnny). Director Lior Geller brings an aggressive energy and jittery style to this action movie, but his sketch of a script feels like an all-caps reactive tweet to some news story about MS-13, a real problem in the D.C. area. Despite getting top billing, Van Damme doesn’t have a ton to do, but fans should be glad to see him back in action. — Kimber Myers “We Die Young” Rated: R, for violence, language and some drug material Running time: 1 hour, 33 minutes Playing: Starts March 1, AMC CityWalk 19, Universal City; also on VOD

Bullet Points: We Die Young by Chris The Brain · Published March 1, 2019 I fully expect Jean-Claude Van Damme to get his fair share of critical acclaim for his work in We Die Young and rightfully so. Making the Daniel character a mute allowed Van Damme to prove the old adage that sometimes less is more… Van Damme had to deliver his lines and emotions through facial expressions and body language and delivered he did. Sadly, Van Damme, the rare '80s action star who has (in recent years) given some thought to how he can age gracefully on-screen, is not in "We Die Young" a lot. Granted, a bigger role might not have improved Van Damme's enjoyably twitchy performance as the mute, Oxycontin-addicted ex-marine Daniel. But Daniel is the most compelling part of "We Die Young,"

action-flix.com/action-flix-home-page/review-jcvd-s-we-die-young-delivers-a-powerful-if-downbeat-message-of-life-s-harsh-realitiesFriday, March 01, 2019 REVIEW: WE DIE YOUNG by John M Jerva STARRING: Jean-Claude Van Damme, Elias Garza, David Castañeda, Nicholas Sean Johnny, Kerry Bennett, and Joseph Long DIRECTED BY: Lior Geller JCVD tackles a very tragic role in WE DIE YOUNG and he doesn't even say a word as his character of Daniel was injured in combat which prohibits him from speaking. Van Damme becomes a very sympathetic character for the audience and even though he doesn't speak, he says a lot with his body and his expressions. We know something very bad happened when he was overseas, which we see in a flashback, and it serves up a very compelling display from the action star we haven't seen before. Van Damme doesn't have the most screen time but he makes the best of it when he is. Like I said, Elias Garza as Lucas is the film's true protagonist and he handles the weight of the role very well. The rest of the cast is solid especially David Castañeda who plays the vile Rincon. Even though he is ruthless, family means everything to him and loyalty even more. [..] To sum it all up, WE DIE YOUNG packs an emotional wallop and even though Van Damme doesn't say a word he serves up one of his best performances to date. It's a hard one to stomach at time but it is an emotional ride worth taking. The cast deliver spot on performances and it shows a side of D.C. that needs to be heard. Life can be hard and this is a movie that demonstrates that unpleasant fact. It deals with some riveting issues and will keep you engrossed util, the credits role. Fans of Van Damme will see a different side to him and even though he doesn't throwdown, he still delivers an impact. VERDICT: ACTION-FLIX APPROVED WE DIE YOUNG Opens Today in Select Cinemas and Digital Platforms from Lionsgate

www.hollywoodmatrimony.com/we-die-young-reviewWe Die Young review by Bobby Blakey The story isn’t anything we haven’t seen before, but the brave choice to use the MS-13 as the gang in question makes the possibility of danger all the higher. The film is a bit slow at times and not packed with action like I had hoped, but still works well enough. The brutality of the gang here lets you know they are not to be messed with making you have more concerned for everyone getting out alive. Of course with Van Damme in the mix you expect him to kick some major ass like only he can, but instead he is a flawed character that struggles with addiction and his sense of devotion to help them.
There are no great classic Van Damme moments in the action which left me a bit underwhelmed, but as an overall film it worked decently. Van Damme does a good job here and much like his previous film The Bouncer looks to be trying to mix it up a bit and focus more on character acting instead of just letting his high flying kicks do the talking.

readysteadycut.com/2019/03/02/we-die-young-film-review/‘We Die Young’ Film Review 2.5/5 The Edge of MS-13 March 2, 2019 Jonathon Wilson I admired what We Die Young was trying to do, even though it rarely if ever accomplished it, and I admired the actors’ commitment to the film, even if I wasn’t entirely thrilled with its overabundance of shaky camerawork and fast cuts to and fro, which are deployed liberally and to varied intended effect, although the only effect that is ever really achieved is general annoyance. But the whole thing is brisk and sincere enough that if you surrender to it you can at least enjoy a few moments of Jean-Claude Old Manne still managing to pay his bills.

I was doubtful about this film, it came out of nowhere and we never got much infos but I see that it's getting positive reception everywhere, so another success for JCVD. Can't wait to watch it!
