REVIEW: Kickboxer: Retaliation (2018)bzfilm.com/reviews/action-film-reviews/review-kickboxer-retaliation/Let’s get one thing straight – “Kickboxer: Retaliation” just works for one simple reason: you get exactly what you expect to see:
– The film is 1 hour 50 minutes long, and there are a lot of fights (watch out for the prison fight scene).
– You expect Tyson to fight in the film – and you get to see it.
– You get Van Damme as well, with some of his trademark kicks.
– You get a very long (about 25 minutes), brutal final fight scene between Alain Mouissi and Hafthor Bjornsson.
– Hell, you even get to see Van Damme fight Tyson and Christopher Lambert!
......
Overall, the film surpasses “Kickboxer: Vengeance” in almost every aspect and is worth a watch to every martial arts fan out there.
BZFILM SCALE: 8/10

Movie Review – Kickboxer: Retaliation (2018)www.flickeringmyth.com/2018/01/movie-review-kickboxer-retaliation-2018/Overall the film is incredibly goofy but there’s a definite sense of fun. It’s not taken too seriously (the last, to an extent was). Full of homage, to not only the original but an array of action classics, this is, for better or worse (depending on your view) a perfect ‘kickboxer’ film. Stylish, with a relentless finale and easily the best since the very original.

‘Kickboxer: Retaliation’ Movie Review | David vs. Goliath funnyactionmovies.com/kickboxer-retaliation-movie-review/In the end, I really hope that you will like equally this ‘Kickboxer: Retaliation’ movie review and the flick itself. 🙂
Following the same formula, ‘Kickboxer: Retaliation’ manages to be better than ‘Kickboxer Vengeance’ (2016).
It succeeds in paying homage to the classic from 1989 and be sure that it is freaking entertaining to watch.
What really works out for the actioner is the impressive cast, the breathtaking martial arts choreography (far better than the original), the witty characters of Jean-Claude Van Damme and Mike Tyson and the nifty ending.
No matter if you are a fan of the Kickboxer franchise or not, you will have a hell of a fun with this one.

Most are very positive, good news because usually martial arts films get low ratings by general audience.

Bullet Points: Kickboxer: Retaliation by Chris The Brain · Published January 26, 2018 · Updated January 26, 2018 I am not sure I can think of another movie reboot that properly paid homage to the original source material the way Kickboxer: Vengeance did.
Kickboxer: Vengeance’s updated tale of Kurt Sloane and Tong Po benefitted greatly by the presence of the man who started it all way back in 1989… Jean-Claude Van Damme. Kickboxer: Vengeance, with the blessing of Van Damme himself, laid the groundwork not only for a renewed Kickboxer franchise, but for the action movie career of the star of the film, Alain Moussi.
Now I absolutely loved Kickboxer: Vengeance and my anticipation for the sequel, Kickboxer: Retaliation, was off the charts. But that anticipation was not without concern… Was I hyping up the movie too much in my mind? Would Alain Moussi fall victim to a sophomore slump? Would the fact that Kickboxer: Retaliation had to tell its own story be a blessing or a curse?Read more: www.bulletproofaction.com/2018/01/26/bullet-points-kickboxer-retaliation/

Kickboxer: Retaliation (2018) Brad Curran January 26, 2018 After getting a decent update with 2016’s “Kickboxer: Vengeance”, the 1989 cult classic “Kickboxer” has finally found its most worthy successor to the Nuk Soo Kow throne yet with that reboot’s sequel, “Kickboxer: Retaliation”. With an almost ceaseless barrage of Muay Thai battles and plenty of new blood injecting into its warrior stable, including a sword-wielding Highlander, a former world heavyweight boxing champion, and a villain almost literally capable of moving mountains, “Kickboxer: Retaliation” delivers all the head-kicking fun that fans of the series are after, and like the much beloved song-and-dance number of the original, will leave them “feeling so good today”!Read more: kungfukingdom.com/kickboxer-retaliation-movie-review/

Also, a positive one from Joblo: www.joblo.com/movie-news/review-kickboxer-retaliation-153Furthermore, RETALIATION is actually pretty well made, for a movie of this caliber. Most of the fight scenes are reasonably well choreographed and staged; we're not talking THE RAID here, but for what it is, the film delivers on its basic promise to show you mildly diverting violence in a competent way. Logothetis takes one page too many out of Zack Snyder's old playbook (slow-mo-fast-mo-slow-mo, etc.) but overall he proves himself adept at staging an ass-kicking. There are also several training montages, always necessary, that give you what you need out of those types of things, and one sequence that startlingly uses Surfari's "Wipeout" to compliment the beatings taking place. I haven't even gotten to the absolutely absurd opening sequence, which sees Sloan dreaming he's in some kind of old-fashioned Hollywood movie!
Yes, this movie is often a strange bird, and it's also often quite entertaining. If you can stand 110 minutes of shameless face-punching lunacy, then RETALIATION will do just fine. 7/10
