JCVD radio interview Collider Live Feb 5, 2019
JCVD: To me now acting became like a hobby, something I like to do, like for example making a movie for like a million dollars, like We Die Young, right. With young Hispanic actors, good actors and me giving my best with them. And they are trying to promote this movie as an action flick, right. But it's totally, totally reversed. It shows a society like the MS-13, it shows like, if you get born there you are kind of stuck there, right? And me, I'm a guy who came out of a very traumatic shock, I was in the army. And I met those guys because one day I was sent Sony to Texas to see people coming back from Iraq. When they are burned, so they go to the clinic and I go to their room, we talk together. They are very strong because they are on some drugs and products to, you know..
And so we talk about everything they open their heart to me. They talk about, you know I'm from the Mid-West and I was doing Karate, my father was beating my mother, so I was kicking him but I lost that leg and I feel like I can go back to army and fight.
So Sony is telling me come on next room, next room and I say: Hold on, hold on, hold on you bring me here now we talk about those people, that's OK. So I'm that type of guy in that society.
Imagine the movie, right and drugs are expensive so in that area they can give it to me first of all so I can live and I have a relationship with a kid, working MS-13 kid who is giving me the drugs. Him and I have a relationship and he said hey man, you should stop that shit, you know you are going to day one day. I can not talk. So I got no way to communicate with him except with a form. You understand? And this boy has a little brother who wants to be in the steps of his big brother and then you have Rincon who is like the boss of the MS-13 who has a sister who is handicapped. But she is beautiful so every time you see this tough guy, looking for the cops, his marriage, then he looks at his sister his eyes are like melting he looses everything, he is ready to do everything because the Coyotes hurt their family. So that is their vision, right? They are tough, they are mean, they are this they are that it's their code of honor. Then you have these two kids who are almost adopted by Rincon and Rincon trusts that kid but something happened that should not have to happen the young boy, the brother wants to become MS-13. And then the shit starts. It becomes a very big action movie. So I don't know how to tell you about this movie. But my director said: Please JC, we worked so hard on making this so real to show the society what it is in that type of area and I'm using you as a guy who can not talk, because you are very good with your eyes, if you feel something, if you love something you can produce this love, right? So this is to me the movie We Die Young.

Joana Metrass On ‘We Die Young’ And Working With Jean-Claude Van Damme By James Prestridge February 25, 2019 Q: The film gave you a chance to work closely with action movie legend Jean-Claude Van Damme. What was it like working with JCVD?
A: I was so nervous when I first met him. As you say, he is a Hollywood legend. I have worked with many famous actors before but never with someone who is considered “a legend”. But after you meet him you forget all that, for he is a colleague focused on doing his best – like we all are.
Jean-Claude is for sure one of those people who has this incredible “star quality” to him when the cameras star rolling. You can’t help but look at him. It was an incredible experience.
Q: Do you have any fun or interesting stories from working on the film?
A: As I was replying to your previous question, one particular moment kept coming to my mind. There was a day when we were shooting a really hard emotional scene for so many hours. My head began “exploding” from keeping myself at that peek of emotion for so long; I literally had to go put it under very cold water. I was a wreck.
When I got back to the make up room to re-do all my make up, there was a group of ladies that worked in different departments of the film all waiting for me, and everyone was very quiet. No one was talking (me neither, because I was under such strong emotions). I thought: “wow, they must have really felt it too!” Then, after a second one of them couldn’t hold it anymore and broke the silence, they all excitedly started talking at the same time.
Only then did I realise why they actually were there waiting for me as they start asking: “OMG, what was it like to hold Jean-Claude Van Damme?!”Read more: closeupculture.com/2019/02/25/joana-metrass-on-we-die-young-and-working-with-jean-claude-van-damme/

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Director Lior Geller Talks WE DIE YOUNG with Jean-Claude Van Damme! Sunday, March 03, 2019 by John M Jerva 3) Now of course it stars action legend Jean-Claude Van Damme. How did he get involved and did you always have him in mind for the role?
I didn’t have any particular actor in mind when writing the script. Jean-Claude became involved through our producers Moshe and Sagiv Diamant. Moshe had made many of Jean-Claude’s best films of the 1990s and he showed him the script. To my surprise Jean-Claude immediately responded and fell in love with the script and the role. I was surprised because it’s not a typical role for him yet from our very first meeting, he completely understood the film and the character of the war veteran.
4) Tell us what having such a great action star in JCVD does for the film. What does he bring to it? How was it to work with him?
Jean-Claude is a tremendous talent, a really smart cinephile and one of the genuinely nicest people in Hollywood. It often gets overlooked how talented of an actor he really is. His character in the film has a tracheostomy tube down his throat from a battlefield injury, making him unable to speak. There are very few actors who are capable of pulling off not talking for an entire film, it’s a great challenge, but Jean-Claude was able to convey such depth just with his eyes and subtle physical nuances that he carried whole scenes of dialogue without uttering a word.

Joana Metrass Says Once Upon A Time Is A Very Feminist Show Changing The Way We See Fairy Tales March 14, 2019 Briana: What was it like working with Jean-Claude Van Damme?
Joana: We had to do a lot of research for this film and the director got us to meet learned from FBI agents and with the gangs. It was a very challenging experience both for me and for him I believe. Jean-Claude Van Damme, He's kind of like a legend. I work with a lot of famous actors but never wanted considered a legend so I was really nervous when I got there. I remember sitting across a table I'm thinking he's just a colleague, like he's here like me.
There's a thing about his character, for him it was a challenge and for me and it was incredible. Discovering the depth of a relationship because we had to be able to communicate and be truthful in our communication for the audience to see it. It had to be so true we couldn't hide anything the audience has to look into our eyes to understand our relationship and our feelings and everything that's going on and that was really cool.
