His acting ability and clunky accent less so, so any movie that prevents him speaking (his character is mute in this movie) is the perfect recipe. Sadly though, the overall trailer doesn’t make this movie look good. Not only is it formulaic and generic, but it features some horrible voice-over work that just takes you completely out of the story. The gang-related story and its characters certainly have promise, as does the action potential that Van Damme brings to the package, hopefully the final product can deliver on that potential and not be what this trailer makes it out to be.

We Die Young
Trailer: Jean-Claude Van Damme Battles Drug Lords by Sandy Schaefer – on Jan 21, 2019 in Movie Trailers
[..] The subject matter gives We Die Young a little more dramatic heft than Van Damme's recent direct to video offerings and shows him trying his hand at something different, much like he did on his cult meta-dramedy JCVD and Amazon's canceled Jean-Claude Van Johnson. And it's no accident that Van Damme is silent throughout the film's trailer, either. According to Geller, his character is based on a soldier he knew who lost the ability to speak, following a life-changing injury on the battlefield.
[..]
By changing the setting from Lod (in Roads) to Washington D.C., We Die Young risks losing something in translation, as far as its story's social context and political subtext are concerned. Similarly, Van Damme's character could come off feeling like a white savior in the film, if his arc isn't handled correctly. Those challenges aside, it's good to see the movie intends to say something meaningful, while also allowing Van Damme to continue mixing things at this stage in his career.

Jean-Claude Van Damme in Gritty Gang Film 'We Die Young' Trailer www.firstshowing.net/2019/jean-claude-van-damme-in-gritty-gang-thriller-we-die-young-trailer/ by Alex Billington January 22, 2019 Source: YouTube I don't want him having this kind of life." Lionsgate has debuted the first official trailer for a gritty crime thriller titled We Die Young, the latest film starring Belgian badass Jean-Claude Van Damme (he's also in The Bouncer from last year). The film focuses on the struggles of gang life in Washington DC, telling the story of a 14-year-old boy inducted into a gang. He wants to keep his younger brother safe, but is already being scouted. When an war veteran comes into the neighborhood, they see an opportunity to find a revenge and get out before it's too late. In addition to JCVD, We Die Young also stars Elijah Rodriguez, Joana Metrass, Jacob Scipio, Uriel Emil, Nicholas Sean Johnny, Joseph Long, and David Castañeda. So many of these forgettable action films being made, and despite starring JCVD this doesn't look any good.

www.everythingaction.com/2019/01/22/jcvd-takes-on-ms-13-in-we-die-young-trailer/?utm_campaignPosted January 22 by Zach JCVD Takes On MS-13 in We Die Young (Trailer) 2019 has barely begun but Jean Claude Van Damme already has one new movie out in limited release with The Bouncer and another on the way in March with We Die Young. JCVD plays Daniel, a soldier who, it seems like from the trailer, suffers an injury while in battle that leaves him unable to speak. Daniel returns to the US and moves into a neighborhood in Washington DC that is run by the MS-13 gang. Lucas (Elijah Rodriguez), a 14-year-old drug runner for the gang, is determined to make sure his 10-year-old brother Miguel (Nicholas Sean Johnny), doesn’t end up in the life as well. His path crosses with Daniel and Daniel may be the only one who can take on the gang and get the boys out alive. The movie is directed by Lior Geller, who is pretty much making his feature film debut after a number of shorts and TV episodes. The movie is out in limited release and On Demand on March 1st and you can check out the trailer below.
