He was seen hobnobbing with Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop at a luncheon on Friday.
And 80s action hero Jean-Claude Van Damme may have been chatting to the powerful politician about his plans to put Canberra on the international movie map.
Speaking with The Daily Telegraph on Saturday, the 57-year-old 'Muscles of Brussels' revealed his dream of establishing a world-class film festival in the Australian capital that would be comparable in size and scale to Cannes.
Established in 1946, the Cannes Film Festival is widely regarded as one of the biggest on the planet, annually drawing in the world's most influential actors and filmmakers.
'Why shouldn't Australia have a big international film festival to rival Cannes? Why not have an artistic reunion in the capital. I think it would ease tensions,' Jean-Claude told The Telegraph.
According to the publication, the Belgian-born star even claimed his friends Donald Trump and Vladmir Putin would travel to Australia for the festival.
It's quite a daring assumption, given the US and Russian Presidents have notoriously fractious relations.
However, it appears Jean-Claude has quite the penchant for diplomacy, also speaking highly of Australia's Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
'I liked the way Mr Turnbull is trying to protect his country,' the Double Impact star stated.
And he certainly knew how to woo Julie when he sat next to her at Friday's New South Wales Federal Budget Lunch.
The glamorous politician was all smiles as she chatted away with action film icon.
The unlikely friends were pictured laughing, with the martial arts specialist gesturing rather enthusiastically with his hands.
Jean-Claude was last in Australia in 2016, when he met with Douglas Shire Mayor Julia Leu, who invited him to Far North Queensland to shoot his next movie.
