I kind of expected that but I think there are at least a good amount of action scenes. They use also knives or just guns ? Lots of guns, but I remember at least two knives. Then It's ok for me.

Black Water Movie Review Valkor June 28th, 2018 Black Water gets a limited US release on June 29th, with a digital release soon after. It’s not one of the finest action films out there, but if you plan on checking this one out then don’t go in with the highest of expectations because you will be disappointed. It’s a bit rough but entertaining. So, out of TOV 5 stars, I’m giving Black Water a 2.Read full review here: www.the-other-view.com/black-water.html

Time for a Reel BLACK WATER review June 28, 2018 | by Carl Wheeler
The plot is passable and has just enough going for it that audiences won’t be completely put off. There are some plot holes but that’s to be expected. The action is okay in a second-tier sort of way. There is no mistaking Black Water for a big budget theatrical release. Still though, what is being done does contain some entertainment value. Jean-Claude Van Damme is, as expected, the best part of this film. Everyone else just along for the ride.
Jean-Claude Van Damme has clearly passed his prime in the quality of films he’s been invited to participate as well as his physical prowess. That being said, I’m sure he could still kick most of our asses on any given day so I’m going to dwell on that fact. As for his less-than-A-list roles he’s been accustomed to taking over the last couple of decades, well at least keeping himself in the public’s eye. Black Water is to be taken with a grain of salt and graded on the “direct to video” curve. There’s no way anyone should expect top-notch acting, action or plot. This latest work falls well within the aforementioned parameters, and justly deserves its middle of the road marks. You can check this one out in a very limited theatrical release, the AMC Star Gratiot 15 in the Metro Detroit area, and also On Demand.

Black Water - 10/10 (Italian Blu-ray) SPOILERS ALERT
36 Lead role for JCVD and hot damme it has been a massive pleasure. I didn't rate a JC film as the lead 10/10 in years, the last one was "Universal Soldier Regeneration", so almost 10 years ago.
I will review a lot except the ending. Firstly this isn't a JC-Dolph co-star film as suggested. JC is the lead for the whole film. The film is mostly set on the submarine but the film start outside of it and you'll instantly get this is high quality production, it start with an awesome shootout on the levels on Stallone films.
Then the film is being set up on the submarine and the structrure of story is amazingly shot and perfectly splitted among all the main actors. You'll see a great supporting role of Patrick Kilpatrick and the introduction of the main villain, Al Sapienza. A brilliant action support for JC played by Jasmine Waltz and then him, Dolph who has fantastic lines during the beginning and near ending of the film.
The action? So cool! Man I loved it! you know I'm a sucker for martial arts but how can I complain for so many good shootouts ? I can't. The cinematography ? Totally cinematic and colourful. 10/10 for both action and cinematography. The ending ? Amazing and realistic but as i said I won't talk about it, just buy the film and watch it! you won't regret it.
The film isn't boring for a single minute and I can't stop re-watching it. A special thank you to the Italian distribution, the Italian audio is simply fantastic! so clean and powerful.
After "Kickboxer Retaliation" and "Black Water" I can't believe I have to see also "Lukas" and "We Die Young" this year... What a year for a fan! Thank you JC from the deep of my heart.

www.bulletproofaction.com/2018/06/29/bullet-points-black-water/The lack of JCVD/Lundgren aside, Black Water did deliver some solid action scenes and a nice swerve towards the end of the film. Black Water featured an above average supporting cast with Al Sapienza delivering as the CIA snake in the grass and Patrick Kilpatrick also making the most of his limited screen time. Van Damme is a proven action hearo and was well cast as the grizzled CIA veteran. It is exactly the type of character the more grizzled Jean-Claude Van Damme should be playing at this stage in the game.
How about we dive into some Bonus Bullet Points… ◾Familiar Face: Rhodes’ right hand man Kagan was played by Kris Van Damme (6 Bullets). With Kris and his dad being on opposite sides in the movie, we get some Van Damme vs. Van Damme action! ◾Makes Me Cringe Quote: “You want a man to tell the truth, you put a needle in his eye.” – Ferris ◾Working Title: The working title for the film was Submerged. ◾Keep Your Pants On: When Wheeler and Ballard meet at the motel we find out that they are partners with benefits. Van Damme did manage to keep his bare ass off the screen. In fact, there is no nudity at all in Black Water. ◾Directorial Debut: Black Water was the first film directed by longtime cinematographer Pasha Patriki.

www.thatmomentin.com/black-water-review/Review 2.5/5 Black Water is a 2018 action thriller about a deep cover operative who awakens to find himself imprisoned in a CIA black site on a submarine. Running at an hour and forty-five minutes, the film is a little too hefty for it’s own good, padded with overlong gunfights and flat bits of character development. What’s more strange is how we never once feel as if we’re actually on submarine, the dank spacious set looking more like the bowls of a steam and fire factory. Van Damme fans, of whom I am one, will take some notable pleasure in a few sterling Van Damme moments, but otherwise, Black Water is nothing more than a serviceable thriller.

Movie Review: ‘Black Water’ RedCarpetCrash June 29, 2018 Full review here: redcarpetcrash.com/movie-review-black-water/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitterFirst, the runtime is a little inflated. In the tight confines of a submarine, the action scenes, while good, begin to feel a bit repetitive. I think cutting the runtime from 105 to 90-95 minutes would have given a boost to the film’s intensity. Second is that this is 2018 and not 1988. I still found Van Damme very entertaining and thought he pulled off the action that was asked of him, but it is clear he is not capable of 50% of what he used to do. There isn’t a single split or kick over someone’s head in this movie. I do commend the fight choreographer, Kieran Gallagher, on designing action that compliments the actors.
While Black Water may not be an action classic, it fits in well with movies like The Last Stand, The Escape Plan, and The Expendables where we get to see if the heroes of yesteryear still have it. With the right expectations, this can be a good way to pass the time. However, with the wrong expectations, you will be left disappointed.

eu.detroitnews.com/story/entertainment/movies/2018/06/28/movie-review-black-water/714365002/ You know, your typical prison break on a submarine movie.
Understand, "Black Water" is not an awful movie (that's the quote you'll read in ads: "Not an awful movie!"). In fact, it's kind of comforting cinematic cheese (that's the quote they should use: "Comforting cinematic cheese!").
It's a movie with rhythms you've seen many times before (unless you're 9) starring a couple of aging action stars whose years are never discussed, but always apparent. Given younger stars it would still be mediocre ... but somehow not as much fun.
'Black Water' GRADE: C Rated R for violence and language Running time: 105 minutes Published 8:11 p.m. UTC Jun 28, 2018

variety.com/2018/film/reviews/black-water-review-1202860667/Film Review: ‘Black Water’ June 28, 2018 1:05PM PT The rough stuff is unevenly apportioned in the latest Jean-Claude Van Damme-Dolph Lundgren teaming. Like many small-budget B movies intended mainly for small-screen consumption, “Black Water” consists primarily of people running, shooting, hiding, and colliding at various points along dimly lit corridors. (Or, in this case, passageways.) Cinematographer Pasha Patriki, here making his directorial debut, proved capable of handling comparable mayhem in close quarters while shooting “Gridlocked,” a better-than-average 2015 quickie set mostly in a secluded police outpost. He evidences similar proficiency here, although he must periodically rely on stock footage of submarines to convince the audience that, no, what they’re seeing isn’t happening in a deserted warehouse somewhere.

dallasfilmnow.com/2018/06/27/review-black-water/As a veteran cinematographer, first time director Pashiki understands exactly what he wants to deliver with Black Water. It’s not exactly brain-dead cinema, but it is a film with a simple dedication to brawny movies that are still made but rarely nail the affectionate attachment some of us still have for this style of genre.
Black Water opens in the Dallas/Fort Worth area on Friday, June 29 at the AMC Irving 10.
