www.flickeringmyth.com/2018/05/blu-ray-review-black-water-2018/Blu-ray Review – Black Water (2018) May 28, 2018 by admin Black Water, 2018. [..] It goes without saying that Black Water is hardly a high point in either lead actors’ catalogue of work but when put up against any non-Expendables related movies from their recent filmographies it is probably one of the most enjoyable, especially if you’re a long-time fan hankering for the days of muscle men shooting guns and slashing throats without feeling the need to delve into their psyche. For added ‘80/‘90s action kudos Patrick Kilpatrick (Death Warrant) co-stars as a tough-as-nails CIA agent and whilst the whole ‘Die Hard in a…’ thing is, at best, flimsy and ultimately reminds you of better action movies, Black Water does provide a fairly entertaining escape from real life for a while but possibly not one that will stand up to repeated viewings.

Review: BLACK WATER (2018)
A solid, efficient action film that never deviates too far from the mold, BLACK WATER will entertain those who aren’t too disappointed be the deceptive billing.

My rating: 8/10
I knew I was going to love this movie the minute Dolph Lundgren opened his mouth. The humor has that 80's & 90's feel to it. This movie isn't for people who are paying attention to details. Just sit back and enjoy the movie.
Even though Dolph doesn't have much screen time he plays the coolest character of the movie. I think JCVD winks 3 times in this movie, which is a bit much, but it doesn't bother me. It did feel like JCVD was being himself in the last scene and not Scott Wheeler, I guess because of the glasses.
Some people said the movie is predictable, but I disagree.
I love the ending and it does leave an opening for a sequel. Even though I'm not a fan of sequels I wouldn't mind another JCVD/ Dolph Lundgren 'being on the same team' movie.

Black Water is more enjoyable, but there isn't any martial arts in Black Water, so I can understand that some people will prefer POF or KEA.

Great Dutch review: www.filmdomein.nl/recensie/black-water/3 out of 5 stars The story isn't original. Ex-CIA agent gets sensitive information in his possession and is then hunted by the same CIA. Don't take it too seriously, because it lacks credibility and realism. Yet the film is very entertaining and looks delicious. The film contains a lot of fighting scenes. Incidentally, it is noticeable that "The Muscles from Brussels" is starting to get pretty old. Do not expect any fancy turn-kicks, but nice old-fashioned fist fights. In addition, we see many bullet rains. This happens on board a nuclear submarine which is one of those things that you have to see through. The critics among us would probably hate the film for this reason, but the film offers too much entertainment to dislike it.
What sometimes annoys are on the one hand the poor acting performance of the cast and on the other hand shootings where the enemies empty their magazine but do not hit anything. We have seen this in other movies, but it is very cliché when the good guy hits someone with his first shot. Anyway, it is at times like this that you realize that you are actually dealing with a b-movie. Fortunately, these are actually the only errors in the film, which even manages to make a reasonably surprising twist towards the end. The fact that the door is wide open for a follow-up is therefore not so bad, provided it is worked out well of course. All in all, the film is definitely worth a watch, because where you might not expect it, the film has become very entertaining with entertaining story and many very entertaining action scenes.
Extras: As is to be expected, there is no bonus material available on the Blu-ray release on a handful of trailers from other releases.
Black Water is a surprisingly fun guilty pleasure! Of course you should not pay attention to the credibility, but for the fans it is fun to see action heroes Jean-Claude van Damme and Dolph Lundgren together again in a movie. Fans of the Swedish actor, however, have to keep in mind that his part in the film is limited. The film may have been given the stamp of b-film, but actually the film is not less appealing than more expensive movies in the same genre. It makes Black Water extremely suitable as entertainment, you will undoubtedly frown your eyebrows here and there, but you will forgive the film for its errors.
