Jean-Claude Van Damme is one of those actors who has a tendency to disappear and reappear at the most random yet opportune times — so why should his new Amazon series be any different? After over a year since the pilot first premiered on Amazon, the streaming service has released a new teaser trailer and poster for Van Damme’s meta action-comedy series Jean-Claude Van Johnson.

It seems like forever ago that Jean-Claude Van Damme went meta for new Amazon pilot Jean-Claude Van Johnson, but don’t split on us just yet. The muscles from Brussels are back, bronze and willing to admit what a terrible idea this was in a fresh teaser.

Though I really enjoyed the pilot, I think this teaser misses the mark a little bit. It doesn’t give a sense of what the series is about, but honestly, you’re either all-in on a JCVD series or you’re not. And dammit, you should be.

I remember when JEAN-CLAUDE VAN JOHNSON first appeared as a pilot Amazon Prime let you vote on, and thinking it was alright. I thought the beginning - with sadsack Jean-Claude Van Damme - moping around his house was extremely funny, while a lot of the Hollywood parody stuff (like the ridiculous Huckleberry Finn action film he found himself in) was a little too on the nose. As for the action bits, I thought they were hit-and-miss, and always best when JVCD was the butt of the jokes. He actually has pretty good comic timing!

Having said all that, I think the premise has promise (say that five times fast), and seeing JVCD both play a fictionalized version of himself in increasingly crazy movie spoofs, plus action-comedy bits in-between could be a lot of fun. Let's just hope Amazon doesn't squander that potential!
