REVIEW: The Expendables 2 4K UHD Blu-ray By Pvt.Caboose91 on May 22, 2017
[..]
Free from the initial burden of expectations hovering over this sequel, and far enough removed from the hate it received (for goodness sake, the first DVDRip that went on pirate sites had terrible audio sourced from a Cam version, and people said the music sounded dreadful when they could have listened to the soundtrack on fucking YouTube and confirmed the pirate copy was just awful), I feel like we can judge The Expendables 2 a bit more evenly, and it still holds up five years on, though you are left to bemoan certain imperfections. Van Damme remains an excellent villain who consistently chews up the scenery (director Simon West has said he was hard to predict and always did something different each take), but he doesn’t do enough killing, and Scott Adkins is severely underused. The movie feels too cobbled together at times as well, with actors’ schedules meaning that Jet Li gets convenient separated from the group in the beginning before they encounter Schwarzenegger, and Statham sits out the big shootout on the NYC set. Plus, the Statham/Akins fight is still a missed opportunity. And then there’s the matter of the CGI, such as the motorbike/helicopter action beat that really should have been cut.

I re-watched this movie last night on TV. They aired the first movie the night before, but I didn't want to watch them both, that would be too much of the same. Too bad I still remembered most of the jokes, but still a lot of fun to watch.
This movie is a dumb over the top action movie, but absolutely awesome at the same time.
What I strongly dislike about this movie is that the action looks like a video game to me. So much blood and heads being shot off, feels like I'm watching someone play a video game.
Great performance by JCVD, I think Jean Vilain is everything you want him to be. He should not have died they way he did, but oh well Stallone is the hero and the hero should win in a movie like this. Too bad Jean Vilain got decapitated, so there is no way he survived the fight. Maybe his twin Claude Vilain will come back for revenge, not sure if I like that thought.
I rated it a 9/10 the first time and I will stick with that.

I can't believe there exist JC fans who don't like this film and say childish things like JC was wasted in it and he would never lose against Sly. It's unbelievable that some people still don't understand what great opportunity Sly gave to JC, the chance to shine as the villain in a theatrical film that grossed over 300 million at the box office.

cultspark.com/2019/04/16/van-dammage-report-the-expendables-2/ Van Dammage Report: The Expendables 2 Stewart Smith April 16, 2019 What The Expendables 2 may lack in overall panache, however, it comes close to making it up for it with what JCVD fans get out of it. It’s rare that we get to see Van Damme in full-on weirdo mode, but that’s very much what’s on display here. As previously stated, he basically revels in being a genuinely bad dude. Work women, children and the elderly literally to death? No sweat. Randomly show off your neck tattoo of a goat which you also claim “is the pet of Satan”? Sure, why not? Do the arrogant villain thing where you purposefully toy with the hero and insist you toss away your guns and “fight like men? You bet. No matter the situation, Van Damme is rarely holding anything back and quite visibly relishing this rare opportunity to be bad with no strings attached. That does result in a performance and character that lacks some of the substance and nuances we’ve seen when he’s previously played a heel, but it’s a worthy trade off given just how much fun his turn is as Vilain.
