Perfect thriller with a thrilling story. First of three collaborations with Hong Kong director Ringo Lam, second dual role played by JCVD, Natasha Henstridge is probably the hottest female co-star in a JCVD film and she also a good actress. It's one of those JCVD films that I recommend even to non action films fans.

The elevator fight scene is probably one of the most realistic fight scenes ever filmed.

Indeed. I remember when watching the movie as a kid, and got really impressed with both fight scenes with Stefanos Miltasakakis, the first one in the flaming building, and the last one on the elevator.

The elevator fight scene is probably one of the most realistic fight scenes ever filmed. JCVD talks about that fight in the interview you posted:

JC should continue to make some films with Hong Kong directors, a thriller with Dante Lam or an action martial arts film with Wilson Yip.

These anniversary things makes me feel old. 1996 is still a recent memory in my mind.

Throwback 20: Maximum Risk By ThisIsTheDom 7 November 2017 Critically at the time, Maximum Risk was subject to mixed reactions – especially regarding the acting of JCVD. Kevin Thomas of the Los Angeles Times was convinced that JCVD, “does some of his best acting yet,”, whilst on the other hand, Peter Stack’s SFGATE review article of Maximum Risk was (harshly?) titled, “Van Damme Tries to Act and Fails.”
Ultimately, Maximum Risk is far from being an elite action film of the 1990s, and it is nowhere near the peak of JCVD or Lam, but as an action-crime film, it is very watchable. Maximum Risk certainly is an essential viewing for fans of JCVD or Lam, though it is probably more of a curiosity view, just to see if a renowned director can be a hit in an American cinema of which he had an influence on.Read more here: setthetape.com/2017/11/07/throwback-20-maximum-risk/
