One of the greatest prison films. Amazing thrilling atmosphere, JCVD's start as an action star. Van Damme vs Kilpatrick is a must see for all fans. What about the shouting muscles scene ? :-)

Amazing movie! Kilpatrick totally killed it as The Sandman!! For me It's one of those films that I more liked in the current 2000 era, as a kid I was obsessed with martial arts films and didn't particularly liked these 90s action films. Now It's different and I truly love this type of films.

The story is good , well written by Goyer and a great atmospher like " Prison " with Viggo Mortensen and directed by Rennie Harlin , you know ? A fantastic feeling/touch on the whole movie like Prison , but this one is more a horror movie than an action thriller lol By the way , I just check the IMDB page of Viggo and his name in the movie Prsion is Burke

Jean-Claude Van Damme Weekend – Death Warrant (1990) Review Jan 13th, 2018
Verdict: Fun Action Film 6.3/10
Performances – Jean-Claude Van Damme is the star of the film, we are only invested because we want to see him kick ass and he does that. The rest of the cast fit their roles which is good without any of them trying to out shine the star.
Story – The story is a good simple story to follow, it is a cop going undercover to figure out who is behind a string of murders only to find himself uncovering something much bigger. We know the story isn’t going to be the main focus here which is fine, but it does give us enough time to keep guessing about where the film will end up going.
Action/Crime/Mystery – Van Damme brings the action we want to see as he fights the countless amounts of enemies in search for the truth. There is a crime mystery to be solved but this can take the back burner to watching Van Damme fight.
Settings – Van Damme side of the story is inside the prison which is good as we see how he must doubt everyone on all sides, anything outside the prison does solve part of the mystery but is largely forgettable.

Day 154 of the #2019MovieChallenge! Well, it's June, which sounds like Jean, so I decided randomly that it's Jean-Claude Van Damme Week!
Today's movie is 1990's "Death Warrant". Van Damme plays a Canadian cop sent undercover in a California prison to uncover corruption and who is committing a string of inmate murders.
The release of this film was delayed originally due to a dispute between Cannon Films and MGM/UA... and I don't know if they should have even bothered. It actually came out after (but was filmed before) his other movie that year, "Lionheart", which I actually liked more. He was on a decent roll in these early days after his big breakout film, 1988's "Bloodsport". This movie just doesn't really hook you in that much because you knew he was going to walk away the hero in the end. (Not that that doesn't happen in other films, but still...)
Van Damme is fine in this, and there are some terrific supporting work done by Robert Guillaume in a very different role than most I've seen him in. Overall, i guess the film is worth seeing if you're a JCVD fan, but there are better quality movies both before and after this one he's been a part of.
"Death Warrant" is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video, and for rent/purchase on Amazon and iTunes.

I re-watched it yesterday and I loved it again. Such an underrated masterpiece! JC is great but they are the supporting actors that make it special. Awesome cast, it's clearly a low budget film but action and acting make it better than many big budget films. This film has heart and soul and it's a pleasure watching it. 10/10

This was the best of the three movies in the boxset I got yesterday. It has a very In Hell feeling to it actually.
