One of the best JCVD films and definitely one of the greatest martial arts films ever made. A cult classic that every JCVD fan should have in its own disc collection.

Van Damme’s ‘Lionheart’ and More Kick Their Way to Home Video in this Week’s New to Blu (Week of 6/12/18) bloody-disgusting.com/home-video/3503865/van-dammes-lionheart-and-more-kick-their-way-to-home-video-in-this-weeks-new-to-blue-week-of-6-12-18/Chris’ 5-Star, Sure to Entertain, Pick of the Week! Lionheart (MVD Rewind Collection, Region A) Jean-Claude Van Damme is the greatest. If you disagree don’t talk to me. In the late 80’s Van Damme’s career starting to take off beginning with Bloodsport in 1988. Over the course of the next decade he churned out some of the greatest action classics of all time but it was Bloodsport that was the starting point for his relationship with writer/director Sheldon Lettich. Lettich wrote the screenplay for Bloodsport and two years later would make his directorial debut with Lionheart, a film Van Damme co-wrote. Lionheart is now available on Blu-ray courtesy of the MVD Rewind Collection and that is great news for everyone!

It has been a really cool event. Lionheart is so good that still get recognition many years after its release. It's a little film for most people but a truly gem for us JCVD fans.

10 Things You Didn’t Know About Lionheart by Chris The Brain · Published June 20, 2018 · Updated June 20, 2018 1. The scene where Jean-Claude Van Damme’s character Lyon Gaultier escapes the French Foreign Legion camp was filmed about 30 minutes outside of Las Vegas. The rest of the film was shot in and around the Los Angeles area, including the scenes that took place in New York. 2. The doctor who treats Lyon’s brother was played by Eric Karson. Karson was actually one of the producers of the film and he had worked with Jean-Claude Van Damme previously when he directed him in Black Eagle. Lionheart and Black Eagle made up the two picture deal that Van Damme had with Imperial Entertainment. 3. Harrison Page modeled a lot of the Joshua character after his own father, including the way Joshua talked and the gold tooth. It was noted that nearly 50% of Joshua’s dialogue was improvisation by Page. Sheldon Lettich referred to the character as a “motor mouth”. 4. The hospital scenes were all shot at Queen of Angels hospital in Los Angeles. Prior to his acting career, Harrison Page worked as a nurse at that very hospital. 5. When the casting call went out for fighters for the movie, nearly one thousand guys showed up looking to be a part of the film. The auditions for the fighters took place at Frank Dux’s school in North Hollywood. Read more: www.bulletproofaction.com/2018/06/20/10-things-you-didnt-know-about-lionheart/

Blu-Ray Review: MVD Rewind Collection’s Lionheart (Collector’s Edition) Adam finds as much heart as there is roar in Lionheart the film that kicked off the 1990’s for Jean-Claude Van Damme. Being released by MVD’s Rewind Collection on Blu-Ray. The Film I still remember the first time I watched Lionheart. Opening weekend, packed house with my dad at a Sunday Matinee. By its end, the theater erupted into applause. So many mustaches, jean shorts, and mullets were on their feet cheering on Jean-Claude Van Damme as Leon. The film worked hook-line-and-sinker for the intended audience. It was an announcement. The rise of JCVD as an Action Star, and the 90’s Action Film. More JCVD films and the like would follow but only to various degrees of success for the man and his contemporaries.
