In a nutshell: In August, Amazon released its latest batch of pilots – one-off dramas that, depending on audience feedback, may be upgraded to a full-fledged series. The pick of bunch is this slapstick-thriller in which Jean-Claude Van Damme plays a comedically heightened version of himself. In his lonely Hollywood mansion, the eighties action star plans a comeback. But there’s a twist, as Van Damme’s cinema career is revealed to be a cover for his secret identity as a black-ops agent.

It's not news for us but think of it as good promo for the series. Oh yeah, no doubt about that. I just want to see/hear some new actors attached, and to see if I'm familiar with them.

Bar Paly is joining the cast of Jean-Claude Van Damme’s Jean-Claude Van Johnson TV show at Amazon. According to Deadline, the veteran of the cancelled USA drama The Starter Wife is reprising Krisztina, the role she played in the pilot. The character is a “stunning actress who is the female lead in Jean-Claude’s movie.”
An action-adventure spoof, Jean-Claude Van Johnson also stars Kat Foster, Moises Arias, and Phylicia Rashad. Peter Atencio, Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, and Van Damme executive produce. Amazon greenlit the series back in September of 2016. The 2017 premiere date is yet to be announced.
What do you think? Have you watched the Jean-Claude Van Johnson TV series pilot? Do you plan to watch the series when it debuts on Amazon?

www.cinemablend.com/television/1733170/why-jean-claude-van-damme-was-the-right-action-icon-for-amazons-crazy-new-seriesWhy Jean-Claude Van Damme Was The Right Action Icon For Amazon's Crazy New Series By Conner Schwerdtfeger December 1, 2017
While action icons like Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger have recently gone a bit darker in their quests for more somber and pensive roles, Jean-Claude Van Damme has taken a different (and more comedic) route. That path will culminate in this month's release of Amazon's Jean-Claude Van Johnson, in which JCVD plays a bumbling assassin version of himself. I sat down with the folks behind Van Johnson during the show's recent press junket to ask them about the decision to bring Van Damme on-board, and they explained that the Belgian action star conveys the heart and humility that makes him ideal for the show. Series creator Dave Callaham explained:
Well, I grew up loving Jean-Claude Van Damme, so he was the only person I was ever interested in telling this story about, but in addition to my own personal preference for him, and I know Peter has a specific interest in what Jean-Claude brought to the table. Jean-Claude is very unique in that he brings a certain degree of heart, but also a certain degree of humility that a lot of action stars, almost every action star from the era, isn't able to do. So, knowing that I wanted to do a comedy that was going to be meta and was going to require him to make fun of himself, I just wouldn't imagine anyone being able to accomplish what he would've accomplished with the role.
Jean-Claude Van Damme has kicked plenty of ass over the years, but the transition into the latter portion of his career has been quite distinct when compared to the other types of actors who would appear in an Expendables movie. The master of the splits has a unique ability to lampoon himself in a way that's ideally-suited for Jean-Claude Van Johnson's particular brand of storytelling, thus making him a clear choice to headline the new Amazon series.
Director Peter Atencio similarly chimed in during our discussion and explained that the heroes Jean-Claude Van Damme typically played in his films like Hard Target and Timecop were a bit more sensitive and pacifistic than his action contemporaries. That allowed them to craft Jean-Claude Van Johnson into a meta-comedy series that could also maintain a sense of heart and compassion for its buffoonish main character. Addressing this balance, Atencio said:Read more here: www.cinemablend.com/television/1733170/why-jean-claude-van-damme-was-the-right-action-icon-for-amazons-crazy-new-series

www.bbcamerica.com/anglophenia/2017/12/10-actors-whove-spoofed-themselves-on-film-or-tv10 Actors Who’ve Spoofed Themselves on Film or TV The whole thing is very surreal, made all the more perplexing by just how much of this down-on-his-luck version of Van Damme we should believe. Is it all a clever self parody? Or a genuinely disgruntled star’s vanity project? The answer is left deliberately unclear. Below are ten other shows that toy with the image of our favorite stars.
9. Jean-Claude Van Damme in Friends (1996) Jean-Claude Van Johnson is not the first time Jean-Claude has played himself by any measure. He popped up as a love interest for Monica (Courteney Cox) in Friends episode “The One After the Super-Bowl (Part 2)”, and then again in JCVD, a 2008 Belgian crime drama in which he plays a semi-fictionalized version of himself where he’s a down-and-out action star.

Jean-Claude Van Damme’s New Show Is A Missed Opportunity Jean-Claude Van Johnson is riding a wave of nostalgia for ‘80s action films and their stars, but the series doesn't move far beyond the dated tropes that shaped those movies in the first place. Posted on January 4, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. Pier Dominguez BuzzFeed Culture Writer There is clearly room, and an appetite, for work fueled by hard-body genre nostalgia. The Expendables franchise has grossed nearly $800 million worldwide. And despite bad reviews, Van Damme’s new show has been written up in affectionate retrospectives and earned him major interviews everywhere from the New York Times to Rolling Stone. But perhaps it’s only when those once marginalized in the ’80s and ’90s action films — non-Americans, women, gay men, people of color — get to rewrite these stories from different angles that we will get a more nuanced (and funny) reckoning with the ways in which the genre’s appeal relied on caricatures.Read more: www.buzzfeed.com/pdominguez/jean-claude-van-damme-hard-body-nostalgia?utm_term=.wvbZx08lRX#.ouXJrBx73Y
