Well said! I sure hope so, and I hope Van Damme gets back to doing much of his own fight scenes... Too many choppy camera angles and doubles. I know Van Damme is older for sure, but guys like Keanu Reeves and Tom Cruise are doing their own fight scenes. I would rather have less action and Van Damme do the scenes, then a ton of action and it's not him. He did a good job in the Bouncer, but I noticed in "The Last Mercenary" he didn't do many of his own fight scenes.... Too many doubles for my liking. Doubling in low-budget films is mostly due to the shooting schedule, Keanu Reeves and Tom Cruise can shoot a whole week for just a couple of scenes thanks to the big budget they have while JCVD has to complete all his scenes in 3 weeks. If I remember correctly, "The Bouncer" was shot in 2 months, that's why JC performed all his own action scenes. Scott Adkins is famous for shooting all his action scenes in 2 weeks while JCVD needs more time and some of the action is shot by the stunt double to stay on time with the schedule.

That makes sense.... Adkins can do that because he is young.... Van Damme being at his age, would need more breaks and time to catch his breath. Either way it's always good to see Van Damme regardless! Other than black water lmao. I was not a fan of that

Other than black water lmao. I was not a fan of that I'm still surprised how many people don't like that movie, I personally find it very enjoyable, sure it lacks a lot of martial arts scenes but I didn't expect JC to be so central to the plot that Dolph ended up playing almost only a minor role. As a fan of JCVD I consider it a good film with considerable screen time but everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I can't stand "We Die Young" but some consider it a solid film.

Black Water is an amazing DTV movie. Had like a month of shooting, and JCVD has a very good look in the movie, also good female supporting cast.

I also did not like We Die Young..... I enjoy some Van Damme movies that lots do not. I like Second In Command, Until Death... The Bouncer as of recent is one of my faves! I can't tell you exactly why I didn't like Black Water... It's not the lack of martial arts, I just in general found it very dull and boring... It's a very dark movie, and horrific special effects. I can appreciate that they filmed it pretty quick, but in my opinion it shows.... I have watched it twice, and both times had trouble sitting through it.... But I do appreciate people that like it. That is what makes us all beautiful, difference in opinions. I also liked Knock Off and it's one of my faves. Many Van Damme fans cant stand that movie lol.

I also liked Knock Off and it's one of my faves. Many Van Damme fans cant stand that movie lol. This was Van Damme's first wave of fans, of course if you've been following his career since 1988's 'Bloodsport' when you get to 'Knock Off' you will find that film (or "Double Team") not on par with the previous masterpieces. But if we now analyze many films of the late 90s with modern standards we cannot help but say that they were good films, time is a gentleman sometimes.

I can't remember the exact year I got into Van Damme.... I think I was about 7... so 1994.... I just remember the first Van Damme movie I truly didn't like was legionnaire, but even that I have gone back a few times and watched and really like it now.... There isn't many Van Damme movies I don't like. Black Water is still a movie I can watch, but it's probably my least fave Van Damme movie.

to say that "Black water" is a watchable film is an insult to Van Damme...
he himself admitted on French television that it was a "shitty film".
Anyway, we can clearly see that he's not involved in the film... the special effects are worthy of student projects and it's filmed with his feet.
I'm afraid "Darkness of man" is the same kind of movie when you look at the director's horrible filmography (none of his movies have more than 4/10 on IMDb)
always ask yourself the right question when you watch a movie...
If Jean Claude Van Damme was not part of the cast, would I watch this film?

Well said. That is how I feel about it too... Van Damme just seemed bored and unmotivated like he didn't want to be there.... I could tell the action scenes were not him at all... Generally he uses stunt doubles which I get, but almost the entire fight scenes were someone totally different.... It just wasn't super enjoyable. I would watch it because it's Van Damme, but like I said... It's definitely my least fave Van Damme movie. I would rather him not film a movie, then film a movie like Black Water. With that said, anyone who enjoyed it I am glad... Everyone is different.

Van Damme also admitted that he hasn't seen any of his films in the past 15 years, but he only checks his scenes in post-production, so go figure JC's opinion on films he has never seen...

I don't know about the interview myself, but regardless Black Water was a bad film. I am glad for anyone that enjoyed it though, but I truly think only die hard Van Damme fans would enjoy it... I am as die hard as it gets and still found it pretty bad. My wife generally can sit through any Van Damme movie with me, but she got up and walked away during this one lmao. I had to finish this one on my won. She really liked the Bouncer and Pound of Flesh, also liked Hard Corps which is not his best.... but Black Water we both agreed was by far his worst movie or close to anyway. Lets hope his new project is much better!

The link when he talks about "black water" on French television is on a paid site (Canal +)
but I listened to it again and he said "I made a disgusting film called Black Water and I first proposed it to my producer Moshe Diamant who told me that he did not want this crap.
But fortunately thanks to Saban the film could be distributed to cinemas in China and in one weekend, he reimbursed the film thanks to thousands of theaters.
I now live in Hong Kong so I have to be careful not to do this kind of shit again.

Any news about release date?! No, but it will probably be released around Christmas or early 2024, direct-to-video of course.
