THE LAST MERCENARY will be directed by David Charhonwww.imdb.com/name/nm1925637/It will be on Netflix, and from what I hear it will be a buddy cop-type of movie (Lethal Weapon, Rush Hour, etc..) His co-star will be some French actor Alban Ivanov
Edit: Doing some Google research, and Alban Ivanov is the guy on the far left, with the hat. And the guy with the beard is the director guy. Appereantly he is a big buddy-cop fan, because he has done a similar movie in 2012 with Omar Sy, called De l'autre côté du périph, which appereantly is a like a tribute movie to those kind of movies.

I was sure this project would be the first one on the list. It seems that everything is ready to shoot, let's see when shooting will start, I think it will be filmed in France but as far as I know their government is not going to relax the lockdown at least until June, so there is still a little to wait probably.

This and "The Tower" are JCVD's 2020 projects, it makes a lot of sense since French acting and martial arts films are the best he can offer.

This production is expected to start in August or September. They are giving the green light to shoot films these days, by the end of July everything should return as before the coronavirus in most countries.

Let's clarify the situation, cinema industry has changed and will be different after this pandemic, the rule of releasing films only to the cinema or to dtv is no longer valid from this year. There are now 5 streaming services worldwide, Netflix (185 million subscribers) Prime Video (75 million subscribers) Disney+ (55 million subscribers) AppleTV+ (50 million subscribers) and Youtube Premium (20 million subscribers). These 5 streaming services have absorbed almost all cinema releases in the past few months.
Now JC has already had an agreement with Amazon Prime Video for a series and now it seems that he has one with Netflix for a film. I wrote that he could shoot this film in August or September because this is the period when the films will return to cinemas, the first will be Russell Crowe's "Unhinged" on July 31, so it is reasonable to think that the productions will start again from that day.
Are we sure this film will happen? No but I think this film will be produced, the delay in the official announcement makes me think that there are still some doubts, probably related to the shooting start date.

Since we still have a lot to wait we can use this thread to make a discussion about streaming services. Which of these 5 services are you subscribed to?
I only have Prime Video because I need the service to not pay the shipping costs on Amazon, I feel good about it, they release many films and series even if I still can't use it as I would like. I will never subscribe to Disney+ (kids stuff) and AppleTV+/Youtube Premium because they don't have productions that interest me.
So apart from Prime Video the only other service I'm interested in is Netflix but for now I'm not going to subscribe for two reasons, it costs too much (9.99 euro per month) and they don't have many productions I'm interested in. My family doesn't want me to subscribe even when this JCVD film is released and for now I agree. Should I change my mind ?

I checked the Netflix costs today and the SD version costs 7.99 euro per month but I want FullHD and I see that it costs 11.99 euro per month, which is 143 euro per year! way too much for me, Prime Video cost me 36 euro per year and I can even buy the digital copy of many films while Netflix is just streaming and nothing else. I'm afraid this will be the first JCVD film I won't watch... but I'll go crazy when it will come out, so who knows what I'll do!  |

Claude Goetz posted on his Facebook page that the paper work for the movie is done (contracts are signed) now they are preparing for the new movies and they will shoot the movie soon or are already shooting the movie, not sure what he means by "Nous tournons ..tout simplement !!!"  |

JC said in his latest live video that he will soon be flying to Europe to shoot this film and that he must work on recovering his French accent. It seems that this production may start earlier than expected.

How come I don't see The Last Mercenary and The Tower on Jean-Claude Van Damme IMDB site. If he going to film both this year and next. It should be on Jean-Claude Van Damme IMDB site under Projects In Development. Only one I see is Falconman.
