Good little dark thriller, a Van Damme pure and as excellent as in JCVD, watch this if you are looking for something to do at Christmas after having eaten Turkey for dinner.

You can really watch "The Bouncer" with J-C van Damme. Is better than expected.
Saw this last night. I'm a Jean-Claude Van Damme (JCVD) fan so I, personally, enjoy all his films... even the really bad ones! Very little dialogue in this one, enough to keep you watching. The movie is in Belgian French with no subtitles but you will get the jist of the plot. I frowned a little because of the dialect and slang but I could keep up. It comes with two titles, the European "Lukas" and the American version "The Bouncer". If you feel up to it check it out. 😊

rogersmovienation.com/2019/01/10/movie-review-jcvd-van-damme-is-the-bouncer/Movie Review: JCVD (Van Damme) is “The Bouncer” Posted on January 10, 2019 But Van Damme, wearing a hoodie over a hoodie in most scenes, eyes cast down, staying on task, is a mesmerizing presence at the heart of it all. He’s not just playing a guy who has seen it all before, fought his way through this sort of thing too many times to count.
That’s sort of who he is now, a grizzled, melancholy tough guy — at least in the movies.
He was never Mr. One-Liner, never quite Stallone or Statham or the rest, even as they all aged into action heroes who relied on prop guns instead of fight choreography to get by.
And unlike the rest, he’s letting the years and miles show even if the movies shrink to fit his diminished screen profile as he does.

www.bulletproofaction.com/2019/01/11/bullet-points-the-bouncer/Bullet Points: The Bouncer by Chris The Brain · Published January 11, 2019 · Updated January 11, 2019 The praise Van Damme is receiving is justified… The Bouncer gives JCVD an opportunity to display his range as an actor, from the tender father/daughter interactions, to the internal conflict he has working with the police and putting himself in harm’s way, to turning up the intensity for the action scenes.

medium.com/@wewatchedamovie/the-bouncer-gives-jcvd-fans-what-we-ve-all-wanted-for-decades-2c1530834711 ‘The Bouncer’ Gives JCVD Fans What We’ve All Wanted For Decades By Mike Holtz
Perhaps the best part about The Bouncer is that Van Damme fans will be able to appreciate him in a straight up solid movie for once. No gimmicks. He’s not some trainer with four badly written lines (looking at you Kickboxer: Retaliation). He’s not doing a meta thing. He’s not a side character. He’s the main star of a seriously good movie that showcases all of his abilities.
Fuck me, how long have we all been waiting for that to happen again? Decades? Get excited Van Damme fans, this is the real deal! Hopefully Hollywood will take notice. 9/10!

letterboxd.com/crankycineaste/film/the-bouncer-2018/The Bouncer 2018 ★★★½ Rewatched Jan 12, 2019 CrankyCineaste’s review published on Letterboxd : Van Damme has aged into being a terrific actor when given the opportunity. He shines here, coupled with sharp direction. Only the script is somewhat basic.

cinemasanctum.com/film-review-the-bouncer/ It really seems like that out of all the great 80s action stars, Jean-Claude Van Damme has aged the most gracefully, not just as an action star, but in reinventing himself as a singular performer through his meta-narrative dives in stuff like JCVD and the recent show, Jean-Claude Van Johnson. He doesn’t shy away from his age in the way other actors have done, and instead embraced it, and allowing for some occasionally interesting experimentation.-------------------------- rogersmovienation.com/2019/01/10/movie-review-jcvd-van-damme-is-the-bouncer/But Van Damme, wearing a hoodie over a hoodie in most scenes, eyes cast down, staying on task, is a mesmerizing presence at the heart of it all. www.hollywoodmatrimony.com/the-bouncer-review-1 The film is pretty slow paced by design, which I think is important for this characters story. Instead of just being another bad ass action guy who never loses this time around Van Damme portrays a flawed father trying to just survive and thrust into a situation he wants no part of. This pits him in some fights and gunplay, but not quite like we are used to from him. While he does kick some ass he also takes plenty of beatings himself and you are never quite sure how this is all going to play out for him. Although I was bummed we didn’t get more of the usual Van Damage I still enjoyed this film quite a bit for what it is. For those with issues regarding foreign films be warned that this film is mostly subtitled at least until a dubbed version is released. You can check out The Bouncer available now On Demand from Ocean Films.
